Tourism

Tourism is one of the major foreign exchange earners in Kenya. It’s in fact second to agriculture. In that case, like agriculture, it is one of the industries that contribute a significant part in our country’s economy. Throughout East Africa Kenya has proved to be a competitive tourist destination. Indeed, Kenya boasts of being blessed with an environment that attracts tourists from all over the world. Some of these conditions include the country`s political stability, it’s a policy of non-alignment, vast and wide range of pleasant natural resources and most especially wildlife. In addition, warm and sunny climate that favours tourism in Kenya. Majority of the tourists who visit Kenya spend their holidays visiting the attractions that the country has; the peak seasons come between September and April when it is winter in Europe where majority of the tourists come from. Beside the European countries, Kenya also receives a good number of tourists from U.S.A. and Japan.

Kenya has a wide range of tourists attraction namely, rich wildlife, beautiful scenery, historical sites, green vegetation, warm and sunny climate, and parts of coastal sand beaches. The industry in exploiting the stated attraction has provided a variety of facilities which have proved quite an encouragement to the tourist classic logging facilities, e.g. beach hotels, inns, motels and chattels. To cater for the increased number, the government has encouraged more investments by both local and foreign investors in the tourism industry. Such hospitality is granted by political stability prevailing in the government. The rich cultural heritage is yet another attraction which should not go unmentioned. The captivating cultural dances have coloured the other attractions like the Kamba      ( Kitui dance) Giriama (Segenya dance), Luo (Dudu and Ramogi dances), Luhya (Isukuti) and Maasai dance. Tourism has proved too beneficial to our country in many ways. The industry has lead to the creation of job opportunities. Apart from the creation of job opportunities, it has also led to the development of infrastructure eg improvement of road network and air transport.

The demands of the industry have necessitated the development of institutions for training personnel. The Kenya Utalii College is one of such institutions. For security in parks and reserves, the government has set up a college for training personnel.

Finally, tourism being such an economic benefit to our country, we should ensure that the attractions are preserved considering that they are our heritage. The government on its side has to beef up security in the parks and game reserves and more so the improvement in transport network shall greatly boost tourism which has become one of our major income earners. The government should at the same time place a ban on any form of poaching and especially on species of all animals about to come extinct.

To all our visitors, Kenya being an island of peace is a country worthy visiting. The Kenya community is welcoming and this can offer you the opportunity to enjoy your holiday in any part of the country as you view beautiful scenery , rare species of animals and birds, watch the most catching dances and breathing in the fresh unpolluted air. Welcome to Kenya and enjoy your holidays in this beautiful and admirable country.
